Should Contractors Band Together To "Work It Out"?

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 11/5/17 2:50 PM

Take a look around.

Do you see the number of contractors around you dwindling?

How many contractors do you see today, vs. how many there used to be 2, 5 and 10 years ago.

It's plain to see the number of contractors is shrinking, while the number of trucks grows

This results in fewer, but larger operations.

Think this is a coincidence?

It's not.

As you seek answers from FXG on how you will achieve scale, contiguous service areas and overlap, you are being told you need to "work it out" with those around you. Well that's great, but how are you supposed to do so if you have limited resources?

There is a way, but you'll need to ask yourself some questions first.

What You MUST Know To Be Profitable

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 7/14/17 2:39 PM

Recently, we were at a presentation where we discussed the ins and outs of the ISP negotiation. As part of these, we always go over what life will be like as an ISP and what other changes are on the horizon.Meeting.jpeg

As part of these lively discussions, the subject of "are ISP's profitable" always comes up.

As usual, there are those in the group that want to voice their displeasure and complain about how they are not making any money. Believe me, we hear this at all of our sessions, from coast to coast.

This time it occurred to me to ask the group, "So what do you think it takes to be profitable?"

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 1/30/16 2:39 PM

Now that you know you will be going through your initial negotiation, there are a few things you need to be doing NOW. This it true no matter how far off it may seem. If you ask anyone who has already been through one, they'll most likely tell you that a solid understanding of where you currently stand (number-wise) is the foundation of a meaningful and successful process.

Not only will doing the things we are about to mention help you get more of what you want, but being prepared will dramatically lower your stress levels.

Most of us, when embarking on a journey to somewhere we've never been, get the map out (or today "Google It") to see where it is we are going. We then PLAN on how to get there.

You can PLAN your journey to your ideal ISP Destination by doing the following things:

A Contractor's Guide To The ISP Negotiation Process

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 12/14/15 10:15 PM

The time has come to look at the ISP Negotiation process from the contractor perspective.

First, let's go ahead and call it what it is: David v. Goliath, FBS vs. FCS, Large Cap vs. Small Cap. It's the tremendous resources of FXG vs. those of an individual contractor. I think we can all agree that from the ability to influence, FXG holds the cards.

But that doesn't mean, a contractor cannot conduct a meaningful, and even successful negotiation. It just means that in order to do so, the contractor needs to do some homework, and find some very special tools and help.

Well, now, finally, the tools, and help exist...

A Game-Changing Way To Acquire Driver Leads

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 10/4/15 10:39 AM

One of the most difficult and tedious tasks that an FXG CSP faces, is the continuous burden of finding new drivers.

In order to find new drivers, you first must have a solid way of sourcing new potential driver leads

This can't be that hard...right?

Well...

How do you find them? Where do you find them? What do you do if you find them? How can you screen through them to get some good candidates, without it taking too much time and effort? Can you organize the ones I have so that you can find them and work on them when you need to? Can you email the good ones an application?

6 Reasons Why Every FedEx Ground Contractor Needs To Be Tracking Driver Productivity

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 8/22/15 12:20 PM

Currently, I'm traveling the country, meeting with as many of you as I can.

While doing so, something is becoming very apparent. There is something at the core of running your business that is not being monitored. Something so basic and critical to your business' health, that you would think that it would be the one metric that is, for sure, being watched.

Shockingly, this is not the case. In fact, most folks do not have a clue.

There are many people that ask me how eTruckBiz For FXG can save them money. There are a multitude of ways, but one of the biggest, is how we monitor and track this one business metric, on your behalf, with no effort on your part.

What's Your Time Keeping Solution?

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 3/23/15 1:20 PM

This is a hot one!

If you haven't already done so, during your annual compliance certification, you will be asked by FXG to certify that you have "established a system for recording and maintaining records of hours worked by employees".

There are lots of theories as to why, but the bottom line is, you need to have a way to do this.

So, you can get all bent out of shape complaining about this little zinger, or we can look for an easy way to do this that satisfies the requirement, and, turns this new task into a positive for your bottom line!

Why Does FXG Want Certification That CSP's Are Tracking Hours Worked?

Posted by Jeff Walczak on 1/17/15 7:00 PM

In case you haven't noticed yet, there will be a new compliance question that you are going to be asked to answer in your Annual Compliance Certification (ACC) this year.

On the surface it appears harmless, but FXG thought it important enough to include in the certification process, and, may have even delayed this year's process to facilitate its inclusion.

There is a lot of speculation, but there is a reason why you should not take this lightly....
